Jumping Expression/Artist and Installation of Life Exhibition


- - - Once stepping through the entrance, you become surrounded in a pure white open space, seeing a circular red HEARTBEAT DRAWING swaying lightly in the breeze.  From the circle, you hear the beat of the heart. Stepping in to the circle, there is a small monitor showing SASAKI drawing the HEARTBEAT DRAWING.  That is when people realize the red patterns drawn on the surroundings are each beat of the heart: realizing that there are HEARTBEAT DRAWINGS.  The heartbeat heard from this work not only reaffirms“life”, but it also becomes the beat of the gallery space itself, suggesting the presence of“life”to all the exhibited works. - - -

--- The lines of the drawing do not vary widely. This is a drawing in an absolute form. There is no space for SASAKI’s sense of self to be in the drawing, nor there will be change.  Still having that considered, rather than a self-expression of an artist, the act of drawing the heartbeat continously has something in common with basic human instincts, commanding the mortal to "live". - - -

跳躍する表現／ライフ展の作家と展示


- - - SASAKIは1995年からHEARTBEAT DRAWINGという、心臓の鼓動を描くドローイングのプロジェクトをおこなっている。限りなく本物の血の濃度、色に近づけた赤いインクで描かれたドローイングは、 医療機器によって機械的に刻まれた心電図とは明らかに違う質のものだ。そのフリーハンドによる線の微かな震えや強弱が、心臓からトクトクと体全体に響き渡る鼓動と、それを描くSASAKIの指先との繋がりを視覚化する。 作品は、ドローイングと音によるインスタレーション作品である。 会場入り口をくぐると、人々はまず真っ白な空間に包まれ、そこに風にわずかにそよぎながら浮かんでいるサークル状の赤いHEARTBEAT DRAWINGと出会う。 そのサークルの中からは心臓の鼓動音が聞こえてくる。サークルの中に入ると、小さなモニターがあり、そこにはSASAKIがHEARTBEAT DRAWINGを描いている様子が描かれている。 そこで人々は自分の周りを囲っている赤いサークルに描かれている模様が、心臓の鼓動のひとつひとつ、つまりHEARTBEAT DRAWINGであることに気づく。この最初の作品から流れてくる心臓の鼓動はまた、 鑑賞者に自分の生を確認させるだけではなく、ギャラリー空間の鼓動ともなり、またここで展示されているすべての作品の背後にある生命の気配を示唆している。

SASAKIはこのHEARTBEAT DRAWINGのプロジェクトを今まで10年間続けてきた。このドローイングの線そのものが大きく形を変えたりすることはない。これは一つの絶対的な形のドローイングである。 そのドローイングの線そのものにSASAKIの自我が入る余地はないし、変化することはないだろう。それを了解しつつも、ただひたすら鼓動を描き続ける行為は、アーティストの自己表現というよりも、 いずれ必ず死ぬとわかっていても「生きよ」と命じる本能にも通じる何かなのである。- - - - - -
